Cromarty Image Library

Paul Thomas

[Most of the photographs sent by Paul were taken in the 40s and 50s by his grandfather, of whom a short biography follows]

"In 1928, Roderick (Derry) Duff was born to proud parents, Roderick (Roddy) and Isabella (Ella) Duff. Derry had an older sister, Jessie, who was born in 1926. Derry is my Grandad and he was very proud of his heritage.

"In June 2005, he visited my house and I turned on the computer to show him the Cromarty Image library. He was so happy seeing all the old faces he once knew and his face beamed when he saw a picture of his old home, 35 Bank Street.

"Grandad was enlisted in the Seaforth Highlanders in 1948, which ended his 20 year love affair with Cromarty. He moved to Birmingham after short stays in London and Oxford. This is where he met his wife of near 55 years, Evelyn. Nan and Grandad had two children, Glynis (my Mom) and Janice. They also have 5 grandchildren ; Me, Mark, Rachel, Gary and Joeanne. Also two great grandchildren; Charlotte and James. In June 1991, Nan and Grandad moved to Telford, Shropshire which was their retirement home.

"Unfortunately, Grandad passed away at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on the 24/10/2005. He is greatly missed."
