That is Peter Low, back right, who was the Cromarty barber for many years.

I remember having my hair cut by Peter when I was at Cromarty Primary School in the late 60s early 70s. The Barber Shop was at 'Mounteagle' on Bank Street, and I remember that he had a traditional barber's pole in the window - painted in a red and white spiral. Miss MacKay ('Keysie Kippers'), a teacher at Cromarty School would make pointed comments to pupils about the need for a haircut, and we'd be sent along to Peter.

I remember Peter Low ..very well ..it was around the corner in bank street from my Father and Mother's Shop ..also our house at 17 High Street.....Peter was always given a rough time by the kids waiting for haircuts ...and I remember WELL ... he usually had to stop his haircuts to tell them off...he lived in Church Street ..if I remember ..not far from Chapman's paper Shop ..on the other side of the street.

After Peter retired he used to cycle into Cromarty from Balblair to cut the pensioners hair for next to nothing - as he said, he didn't want to let them down - a real gentleman.

Could second from left in the front row be my uncle Matthew Watson? He lived at 13/15 Church Street. He was my uncle and a town councillor. I have only one photo of him. He married a Janet Watson of 58 Gordons Lane in 1911.Matthews parents lived at 3 and 5 Braehead, a Donald Watson and Martha Reid. These Watsons are related to the Reid families at No 7 and 9 Braehead.
