Last meeting of the Town Council

Not certain of the date this occurred. Around the table are Cathel Mackenzie, Donald Matheson, Ken Sutherland, Donald Ross, John Gilles, Danny Macbean and Alla Macdonald.

(Photo date originally set to 1970)

Local government reorganisation, setting up Highland Regional Council and Ross and Cromarty District Council, replacing the old counties and burghs, was in April 1975, so I guess that would date the photo.

The Geography department of my school in Inverness - I was at the IRA - was covered in posters detailing the changes, so the date sticks in my mind. Of course Highland Region and Ross and Cromarty District Councils have now both gone the way of Cromarty Burgh.

oops - Inverness Royal Academy...... Being brought up in Inverness you forget that the initials have other connotations!

If it is the very last meeting, then the date is 8 May 1975. The Councillors and partners thereafter had a farewell dinner at the Royal Hotel.

Looks like the date is 1975 - I was only a few weeks out with my guess of April 1975. I've changed the date.
