"It is the Duchess of Gloucester, alighting from the Rolls to name the Lilla Marass, Douglas & Will." Would like to know what Lilla Marass is. Thank you very much.

Douglass and Will were cigarette people I believe. Never knew who Lilla Marras was.

You could probably find out who Lilla Marass was from the RNLI (if Clem doesn't know). The money for the lifeboat would have been left either by her or in memory of her.

The Lilla Marras Douglas and Will was paid for by legacies from a Mrs J L Marras, London, a Mr J Douglas, Langbank and a Mrs W Kennedy of Langbarr, plus a gift from a Miss Robb and the balance from RNLI funds. She was built by Groves and Guttridge, Boatbuilders, Cowes, Isle of Wight. The cost was £33,723 (Compare that with the present lifeboats at around £2million). I did some work many years ago for a Mrs Elsie Douglas at Killillan on the west coast, who I believe may have had a connection with the Wills family, but I can't find anything yet which might suggest an RNLI link.

Just visible to the right is a corner of the former 'Customs Shed', with part
of the RNLI ensign shown tied to it.
