Family outside last house on Shore St - c1930

In the background are Burnside Cottage, the walled garder and the gable of the old Manse. This picture was taken before the flood in 1940, so the current channel for the burn hadn't yet been built.

The elderly man is Gilbert Hogg and his son and son's wife. Mr Hogg the younger lived latterly on the Braehead, if my memory serves me correctly. He was the last person to be buried in the east churchyard (I think!)

As children at the school we were always wary of 'Gibby', who lived nearby. Is this the same person Sue? Also, is the house in the photo Catriona's holiday cottage at the end of Shore St?

Sue your memory serves you well. Gibb lived at No.5 Braehead adjacent to The Reids at No.7. There was a small pailing fence outside his house that as kids we used to sit on. I have picture of it. It's a long time ago but I remember him as a quiet man, we didn't see him very often but he talked to us about the fish we caught. Happy days.

There is a stone in the East Church graveyard inscribed Gilbert Hogg, died 4th Janaury 1935, aged 78, which I guess would place this photo at around 1930. picture #2965 is taken at around the same place and features these three people with others.

Hi Garve. The Gibby you remember was Gibby (Ma) Watson who lived next door to Mr Hogg. Gibby's wife by name was "Bondie".
