From the list of names I know that Malcolm MacDonald MP was the son of Ramsay MacDonald. Sir Michael Malcolm was a Baronet from Fife, and Col Tennant Elgin became Sir Ian Tennant and was the Queen's second cousin. The remainder may have some local connections to Cromarty.

Dr Copland was possibly the man who gave the Copland Cup for the Regatta, but I don't know the connection with Cromarty. Wm J Smith is the photographer who took many glass plate photographs of Cromarty around 1910 which I own and which are copyrighted in my name (copies of the photos are in the Courthouse Museum).

The above mentioned Wm J Smith was another famous son of Cromarty. Known to the locals of the time as Willie John he became a worldwide commercial traveller as a director of Courage & Co (London). He also became President of the London branch of the Ross & Cromarty Association and great friend of the County Regiment (Seaforth Highlanders) during the First World War.
Back in Cromarty, among many other interests, as Campbell has already alluded to, was his work and generosity on behalf of the Cottage Hospital, for which, in recognition of this he was appointed trustee and manager. Willie Smith spent many years doing noble and unselfish work for others, and was always true to the finest Scottish traditions.

Yes, Alex - he was a much admired man and our old near neighbour Chrissie Smith was always proud of her relationship to this fine man.
