My Father Dennis Longstaff served on Hms Cromarty and survived when the boat sank, he never spoke about his experiences but I have recently learned about his war service from his youngest brother who is 93.
He and other survivors spent over 4 hours in the sea before being rescued, they took it in turns to sit on either a life raft or floatage, he was injured due to swallowing oil in the water from the ship and lost a lung through it. He then served on another ship till the end of the war. I am intrigued to find out more and would like to hear from anybody with connections or information.
