Harbour - c1918

This picture would seem to have been taken from the lighthouse. The roofline of the Girnal can be seen on the left of the picture, and it gives a very good idea of how busy the harbour and firth were in those days.
Taken from Robert Clyne's album.

My gt. grandfather, James Doull brought his family to Cromarty from Wick around 1915. He came, as a Carpenter, to work on Cromarty harbour. His daughter Rosina (Ina) Doull married a Cromarty man. William Watson (son of Donald Watson/ Martha Reid of 5 Braehead)in 1919 in Cromarty.

Would this be ancestors of Donnie & Jackie Doull?

I don't know if "my" Doulls are connected with Donnie and Jackie Doull, Pat, but would be interested to find out more as I don't know anything about Donnie and Jackie. Do they live in Cromarty?, My grandfather was James Doull (b1864) from Wick. He was a Carpenter but also an Innkeeper while in Wick. He had 2 daughters and a son, also James.I believe that my grandfather he returned to Caithness in the early 1920s. He lived at the bottom of The Paye, possible in the National Trust House. I'd imagine"your" Doulls are from Caithness as the surname originates there.

The late John "Jackie" Doull was my grandfather and lived the cromarty area where he married my grandmother Caroline Doull nee Shepherd (residing in Dingwall today) . Jackie's parents including my great granda "Sandy" lived in a cottage near Tain during the 1980's. I believe the family has it's roots in the Caithness area. Hope this helps
